TheatreWorks Holds Casting Call for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee January 4 and 5, 2010, 7:00 – 9:00pm

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (December 18, 2009) — TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a cast of 4 men and 5 women — aged 20 to 49 — for its upcoming musical, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, with Music and Lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin.

This 2005 Tony Award-winning musical comedy was a smash with both critics and audiences alike. The show follows the experiences of six nerdy-but-lovable outsiders, in the throes of puberty, battling for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Supervising the competition is a group of grownups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves.

Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave., New Milford (next to the CVS) on Monday, January 4 and Tuesday, January 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

All auditioners must come prepared with sheet music from a Broadway show tune. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners also should dress comfortably and be prepared to move. SPELLING BEE is under the direction of Beth Bonnabeau of New Milford and the musical direction of Daniel Koch of Millbrook, NY.

All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary. TheatreWorks offers a stipend to all performers, technicians, and directors. For audition sides, character breakdowns, and directions, visit: www.theatreworks.us/actors.

Rehearsals begin in January with performances beginning February 26 and running through March 27 on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays.

TheatreWorks is an award-winning, professional non-Equity theatre company located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to the CVS), in New Milford, CT.
