TheatreWorks' First Annual "Cocktails & Cabaret" Event a Rousing Success

NEW MILFORD, CT (July 26, 2010) — On Saturday, July 17, TheatreWorks New Milford held its first annual "Cocktails & Cabaret event," a fundraiser to benefit its building fund. The theatre is housed in the former Adventist Church, which dates back to 1901, and is in need of maintenance and upgrades that ticket sales alone cannot cover.

The house was fully sold out, and special extra seating had to be arranged for a few last-minute guests.

Guests sipped champagne and got acquainted outside the theatre. The deck garden was a riot of color, with blooming hibiscus echoing the brightly colored parasols peeking from among the greenery, all reflected by fairy lights strung among the plants. Shuttles then brought guests to the nearby home of the event’s organizer, Ted Hine, for a garden cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party.

Guests were later shuttled back to the theatre for the cabaret. The evening got off to a fiery start with a humorous welcome from the devil himself. Elegant in a red smoking jacket and horns, Glenn R. Couture, President of TheatreWorks, welcomed all and gave some pointers on how Hades is organized and what the residents might expect.

The Cabaret show, a medley of song, dance, drama, and humor, featured some of the finest voices to appear on the TheatreWorks stage in recent years. It included a preview of an upcoming show, Almost Maine,  and a combined appearance by the cast and TW Stage 2 teen students performing songs from Les Miserables and Rent. Auction items and door prizes completed the evening.
