TheatreWorks New Milford Announces The Recipient of Three Recent Grants

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (July 11, 2012) – In 2008, TheatreWorks New Milford’s board of directors began a strategic process of expanding its fund development efforts. As a not-for profit organization, the theatre is eligible to apply for grant funding as part of its overall fundraising efforts. Other activities include appeals to individuals and special events like the New Year’s Eve Gala and the annual Cocktails & Cabaret benefit.

One source of general operating support has been the State of Connecticut’s Culture & Tourism Department. Recent organizational changes have moved the Office of the Arts under the umbrella of the Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD). TheatreWorks will be eligible under the new guidelines to continue to apply for operating support. Also, as a result of increasing its fundraising success, the theatre will now be able to receive a share of the Arts Endowment Fund.

The Connecticut Community Foundation based in Waterbury has been an ongoing partner in TheatreWorks’ fund development efforts. Most recently, they signed on as a Leading Role Sponsor of this year’s Cocktails & Cabaret event.

A local couple who are TheatreWorks subscribers and donors recently donated funds to purchase a new Box Office System. The Vendini system has been used successfully by a number of area theatres. This upgrade offers improved ease-of-use for the ticket purchaser, subscriber, class registrant and online donor. It also provides improved tools for the house management and box office staff and seamless reporting for all aspects of theatre operations.

Finally, with a grant from the Lawrence D. and Natalie J. Portell Foundation based in New Milford, the theatre has purchased a wireless intercom system to improve communications among ushers, box office staff and the technical production teams during performances.

TheatreWorks New Milford is proud to serve the community and appreciates the support of both individuals and organizations that allow the theatre to maintain its central role in the cultural life of New Milford and the surrounding region. Questions or comments are welcomed by the theatre’s Fund Development Committee Chair, Norman Adler, at nadler@theatreworks.us.
