NEW MILFORD, CONN. (September 4, 2012) – TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a cast of 4 men and 5 women, ages 20 to 60 for its upcoming production of XANADU, the 2007 award-winning musical comedy with book by Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne.
XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980. Her quest is to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first roller disco. But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you is based on the 1980 cult movie classic of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.
Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave., New Milford (next to the CVS) on Monday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
XANADU is under the direction of Bradford Blake of New Milford.
Please note: there are no non-singing roles. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should come with sheet music for the pianist and be prepared to sing 16 bars only from a Broadway score in the lighter, preferably pop, genre. They should be familiar with at least one song from the stage version of XANADU in case they are asked to sing from the score. Auditioners should also be prepared to learn a brief movement routine. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary. TheatreWorks offers a stipend to all performers, technicians, and directors.
