Journey to Neverland TheatreWorks New Milford Opens the Wildly Imaginative 'Peter and the Starcatcher' This Friday

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (February 21, 2017) – On Friday, February 24, TheatreWorks New Milford will premiere the five time Tony Award-winning play with music, "Peter and the Starcatcher," written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. The curtain goes up at 8:00 p.m. on a three week run with an opening night gala after the show. The show is directed by Alicia Dempster of Danbury.

Based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher provides a humorous and fantastical backstory for the beloved character of Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis Captain Hook. In this wildly imaginative play, we meet a poor orphaned child on the high seas simply called Boy (Cullen Burling of Monroe, CT). His sad and lonely world is upended when he meets Molly (Abbey Lynch of Sandy Hook, CT), the daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Astor (Dean Anderson of New Fairfield, CT). Molly, our heroine, is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure trunk filled with magical star stuff from getting into the hands of evil and greedy pirate Black Stache (Matt Austin of New Milford, CT). As they travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.

Rounding out the cast of twelve are Jack Harding, Karl Hinger, Joe Harding and Chris Marker of New Milford, Steve Stott of Brookfield, CT, Bruce Tredwell of Brewster, NY, Alexis Vournazos (Danbury, CT) and Michael Wright (Sandy Hook, CT). This cast of 12 portrays more than 100 characters, relying on imagination and ingenious bits of stagecraft to bring this story to life.

Peter and the Starcatcher, written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker and co-directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 15, 2012, where it ran 319 performances, winning five Tony Awards along the way. It delighted off-Broadway audiences both before its Broadway run (at New York Theatre Workshop) and afterward (at New World Stages).

In addition to Ms. Dempster, the staff consists of producer Christine Daley, lighting designer Peter Petrino, set designer Jim Hipp, costume designer Mary Kimball, and stage manager Susan Lang.
