Free Champagne and Hors D’oeuvres This Friday At the opening night of ‘Doubt’ at TheatreWorks New Milford!
Friends of TheatreWorks, it’s that time again. To celebrate the debut of Doubt: A Parable, by John Patrick Shanley, we’ve got great food, drink, and celebratory bubbly on ice to launch what we’re confident will be one of the most powerful productions we’ve ever mounted. If you’re new to TheatreWorks, this is a time-honored tradition we love to share with our audiences on all our opening nights. There are still seats available for opening night, July 10th, at 8:00 PM as well as the rest of the run.
"Doubt" Featured Actress – Stephanie Jackson
Farmington, Connecticut is quite a ways from New Milford as you may know. When an actress such as TheatreWorks newcomer Stephanie Jackson hauls back-and-forth between these two destinations for months, it shows a heightened level of commitment to her craft…no matter what the venue or the production. Having said that, TheatreWorks is honored to have that dedication on stage, in the form of Ms. Jackson, as part of its current production of Doubt: A Parable.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Ms. Jackson originated the role of Elizabeth Keckly (Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker) in the ongoing, one-woman show: They Called Me Lizzy…from Slavery to the White House, for the East Haddam Stage Company, in 2006.
Please check out all the details of her production here.
Ms. Jackson has previously created roles in such diverse productions as Tiwanna Lewis’ social issues theatre piece, Slice of Life, and portrayed the ancient African leader Yaa Asantewaa in the production of Queens of Africa at UCONN. In real life, Ms. Jackson is an assistant Special Education Teacher at a private school and a proud mother of two.
“In the Spotlight” sat down to ask Ms. Jackson about her body of work and her experiences while rehearsing for her role as Mrs. Muller in Doubt.
ITS: What makes this role unique for you, compared to other roles?
SJ: The character (Mrs. Muller) only appears in one scene but expresses a wide range of emotions during her visit with Sister Alyosius. It is challenging to have to develop all of these aspects of her character with very little room to transition but I do enjoy it.
ITS: What is your favorite role and/or show?
SJ: I love the Broadway production of The Color Purple! The character Sophia reminds me of my grandmother...uncompromising love and strength.
ITS: What makes Doubt unique from the other shows in which you’ve appeared?
SJ: The theme of the play is never really resolved for any of the characters. There is no happy ending. I think that makes this show unique in that the audience really gets to draw its own conclusions about what really happened and why.
ITS: What do you think audiences will enjoy most about DOUBT?
SJ: Audiences will enjoy this unique opportunity to see the influence of faith and religion on issues that penetrate every area of our society.
ITS: Thank you, Stephanie, and break a leg!
