Free Staged Reading of Stephen King’s ‘Misery’ at 8 p.m.
Wine and Cheese Reception Part of the Festivities

The “Page to Stage” staged reading series has a Halloween treat that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seats! Misery is a roller coaster ride into the darkness and torment of obsession. Expect the unexpected in this compellingly cruel thriller. After an auto accident, best-selling romance novelist, Paul Sheldon, is lucky to be alive. Or is he? This stunning stage adaptation by Simon More, based on Stephen King's masterpiece, will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The story is well-known for the 1990 screen version starring James Caan and Kathy Bates, which garnered Ms. Bates an Academy Award for her role as Mr. Sheldon’s “Number 1 Fan,” Annie Wilkes.
Misery is under the direction of Jackie Decho-Holm of New Milford. The cast features Vicki Sosbe of New Milford and KC and Jonathan Ross of Thomaston.

The reading will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. Admission is free, but you must reserve your tickets. We hope to see you at the Theatre on Thursday, October 22nd, for an 8 p.m. curtain.

Kiss Me, Kate Featured Actor
Tom Denihan

One TheatreWorks newcomer who is currently gracing the boards in Kiss Me, Kate is the multi-talented actor/singer/dancer, Tom Denihan of Waterbury. Currently, Tom is playing the philandering gambler, Bill Calhoun, and “on stage” he’s rounding out the role of Lucentio in the “play within a play,” which is The Taming of the Shrew.

Recently, Tom had the honor of playing Trevor Graydon for the Seven Angels/ Palace Theatre summer stock production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. His other favorite roles include, but are not limited to, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Berger in Hair, and Jimmy Curry in The Rainmaker.

We asked Tom what was unique about Kiss Me, Kate compared to other shows he’s performed in.

T.D. Well, for one, it is at TheatreWorks…I have always wanted to do a show here and also to have the chance of working with Director Brad Blake. All my friends who have been in shows with Brad have sung his praises. Also, this is an extremely talented cast…talented people with no egos who are willing to help wherever they can when asked. And also doing a classic old-time musical is something that excites me.

How about the role? What’s unique about Bill Calhoun to you?

T.D. I’m portraying the classic song and dance man. A prototypical 1940's “guy’s guy.” That’s a bit of a departure for me. You need to see every part of him. You need to see his weaknesses and strengths. You need to see his love of life brought forward in the songs and production numbers. Bill is not a mail-it-in type character. 100% effort is required.

And the show? What do think the audience will enjoy most?

T.D. That’s a tough one. There is so much to love in this production: the talented cast, the direction and production numbers, not sticking to the “tried and true” and doing it a little different, the songs and the voices that bring these songs to life, Arnie Gross’ brilliant musical direction, the funny take on “Taming of the Shrew," Cole Porter's timeless music, and the stunning scenery and costumes. Yeah, that pretty much covers it, I think.

Whew! That’s a list-and-a-half. Of course, there’s also Tom and this talented cast of 16 who are bringing audiences to their feet every night. And there are only five performances left! Please catch the multi-talented Tom Denihan and this magical cast set a new bar for musical comedy in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate at TheatreWorks New Milford.
