Every other month on a Sunday afternoon during our season, Theatreworks New Milford presents readings of plays that are under consideration for future productions. It’s a great opportunity to get audience reaction to new plays, many of them previously unproduced, in order to gauge the chance of a successful full production on our mainstage.
One of the plays read here this season will open our 2027 season next February. It’s a hilarious romantic comedy. We hope to see you all there!
This Season
The Distance of Mars, A Cuban Memory
October 18 at 3 pm
Written by Diana Canova and directed by Myla Pitt, The Distance of Mars, A Cuban Memory is a story of two families in post-revolutionary Cuba. There are secrets, longings, and everyday struggles to survive in a communist country ninety miles from freedom and liberty. Ninety miles which might as well be the distance of Mars.
Diana Canova’s career spans Broadway (They’re Playing Our Song, Company revival), Hollywood, and regional theater. An adjunct voice professor at Manhattanville College and theater director at Joel Barlow High School, she boosted participation and earned Connecticut Drama Association awards. Her TheatreWorks credits include directing Spring Awakening and A Comedy of Tenors; she won a 2025 Broadway World Connecticut Award for Moon Over Buffalo at Ridgefield Theater Barn. She recently joined the TheatreWorks Board of Directors.
