Dorothy Lyman, a two-time Emmy Award-winner, premiered her play Upstate at TheatreWorks New Milford on May 2, 2025. The story follows three generations of women and their family as they meet on President’s Day Weekend to decide the fate of their farm.
Dorothy is known for her roles in All My Children and Mama’s Family. She’s worked continuously since she was twenty-one in film and TV, directing seventy-five episodes of The Nanny. Players Workshop in Mexico developed and produced her plays Enemy, A Rage in Tenure, and Soft Landing.
Dorothy’s directing career began in 1980 with the original off-Broadway production of A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking, starring Susan Sarandon and Eileen Brennan. She also directed the national tour, starring Elizabeth Ashley and Susan Anton. Her feature film The Northern Kingdom is available on Netflix.
