Picture Imperfect TheatreWorks New Milford Opens Riveting Drama ‘Time Stands Still’ on July 10

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (June 29, 2015) – On Friday, July 10, TheatreWorks New Milford will premiere the gripping contemporary drama TIME STANDS STILL by Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies. The curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. on a four-week run.

The story focuses on Sarah, a photojournalist, and James, a foreign correspondent and Sarah’s long-term boyfriend. Sarah has just returned to their apartment in Brooklyn after being injured covering a war zone. James, meanwhile, is riddled with guilt for having left Sarah alone. Theirs is a partnership based on telling the toughest stories, and together, making a difference. But when their own story takes a sudden turn, the adventurous couple confronts the uncertain prospect of a more conventional life. Smart, stylish, and timely, TIME STANDS STILL will inspire much discussion well after the curtain comes down.

“[Playwright] Donald Margulies refers to TIME STANDS STILL as a love story. But I think it’s also about responsibility…” said director Sonnie Osborne of New Milford. “…responsibility to each other, to the world at large, and to each of their own selves. The play touches on universal themes that give audiences something to think about, and it has wide audience appeal. The script is beautifully written. It’s intelligent, engaging, moving, and unexpectedly funny.”

“The show’s script spans a lot of emotional territory. From world-wide conflicts down to personal and domestic issues,” said producer Richard Pettibone of New Milford, who also co-designed the set and lights. “What’s really enlightening and enjoyable about these four characters is that you’ll still find them very relatable, despite the fact that they lead very different lives than most of us…which is really part of the point. I’m confident that this production will inspire a lot of great conversations among those who come see it.”

The production features some of the region’s finest actors: Will Jeffries (Southbury), Alicia Dempster and Aaron Kaplan (both Danbury), and Erin Shaughnessy (New Milford).
Besides Osborne and Pettibone, the show’s crew includes co-set and co-lighting designer Scott Wyshynski, sound designer Tom Libonate, and stage manager Kathy Bolster.
TIME STANDS STILL runs July 10,11 17,18 24,25,26 31 and August 1. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, with a 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee on July 26. Tickets for all shows are $23 for reserved seating. Students and Military personnel with ID will be admitted for $18.

On Thursday, July 9, Senior Citizens are invited to a free dress rehearsal at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. is TheatreWorks’ Pay-What-You-Want night. At this performance, patrons name the price for their ticket.

Reservations can be made online at THEATREWORKS.US or by calling the box office at (860) 350-6863.

TIME STANDS STILL was given its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on February 11, 2009. The show made its Broadway debut on January 28, 2010 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre and received a Tony nomination for Best Play of 2010. The New York Times said of the play, “Although TIME STANDS STILL is deceptively modest, consisting of a handful of conversations among just four characters, the range of feeling it explores is wide and deep.”
