A New Play by Dorothy Lyman

Dorothy Lyman, a two-time Emmy Award-winner, presents her world premiere play “Upstate” on May 2, 2025, at 8 pm live at TheatreWorks New Milford. The story follows three generations of women and their family meeting on President’s Day Weekend to decide the fate of their farm. Weekend performances run through the month of May.
Lyman, known for her roles in All My Children and Mama’s Family, has worked continuously since she was twenty-one in theater, film and television. Working in Los Angeles for decades, she directed seventy-five episodes of Fran Drescher’s sitcom “The Nanny “ and developed and produced plays like “Enemy,”; “A Rage in Tenure,”; and “Soft Landing” at Players Workshop in Mexico.
Lyman’s directing career began in 1980 with the original off-Broadway production of “A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking, “ starring Susan Sarandon and Eileen Brennan. Her feature film, The Northern Kingdom, is available on Netflix.
