TheatreWorks Adds Mother’s Day Performance of ‘Souvenir’ on Sunday, May 10
NEW MILFORD, CONN. (April 28, 2015) – TheatreWorks New Milford is adding a Mother’s Day matinee to its run of SOUVENIR, a heartwarming comedy with music by Stephen Temperley, that’s running from May 1 to May 23.
“This is the kind of family-friendly production, focusing on a real life musical ‘odd couple’, that we figured would be a perfect way to treat moms on Mother’s Day,” said the show’s producer Richard Pettibone of New Milford. “The story of the relationship of Florence [Foster Jenkins] and her accompanist Cosme McMoon is sweet, tumultuous, and very funny. It’s really something everyone in the family can enjoy. Tickets are already selling very fast, and adding a performance to accommodate all our patrons and give mom the gift of theatre seemed a great thing to do.”
SOUVENIR is a look back on the real-life eccentric Florence Foster Jenkins (Priscilla Squiers of Danbury) – a wealthy socialite who believed she was a great soprano when, in fact, she couldn’t produce two consecutive notes in tune. As word of her terrible singing spread, so did her fame. The story is told through the eyes of Cosme McMoon (Greg Chrzczon of Stamford), who was her loyal musical director from 1932 through 1944.
In addition to the added 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, May 10, SOUVENIR runs May 1,2 8,9 15,16,17 22,23. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, with 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinees on May 17 and May 10. Tickets for all shows are $23 for reserved seating. Students and Military personnel with ID will be admitted for $18.
On Thursday, April 30, Senior Citizens are invited to a free dress rehearsal at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at 8:00 p.m. is TheatreWorks’ Pay-What-You-Want night. At this performance, patrons name the price for their ticket.
