TheatreWorks Holds Casting Call for The Cripple of Inishmaan July 15 and 16, 2013

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (June 20, 2013) – TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a cast of 5 men (ages 18 to 60) and 4 women (ages 18 to 80) for the black Irish comedy, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN. The playwright is Tony Award-nominated and Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Martin McDonagh (“In Bruges,” “Seven Psychopaths”).

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. It's 1934 and the sleepy island of Inishmaan is abuzz with the news that Hollywood has come to County Galway, as a famous director arrives on the neighboring island to film his movie “Man of Aran.” Up until then, “Cripple Billy,” as he’s known on the little island of Inishmaan, has spent most of his days gazing at cows and yearning for a girl who wants no part of him. Billy becomes determined to cross the sea and audition for the Yank, but the poverty-stricken, gossip-loving locals take a harder view of his gamble for fame and fortune. It is a play that is by turns eccentric, honest, and brilliantly funny.

Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave., New Milford (next to the CVS) on Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN is under the direction of Richard Pettibone of New Milford.

All characters must audition with an Irish accent. A dialect coach will be used during the rehearsal period. For character breakdowns, tips on speaking with an Irish accent, audition sides, and an online copy of the script (which is recommended reading), visit: www.theatreworks.us/actors.

Rehearsals begin July 29, with performances running September 20 through October 12.
