New Reception Area Christened at TheatreWorks New Milford
NEW MILFORD, CONN. (October 8, 2013) – Recently, TheatreWorks president Glenn R. Couture, other members of the board, and special dignitaries were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the new enclosed reception area, which was once part of TheatreWorks New Milford’s back deck. The ceremony was held as the theater was getting ready to stage a performance of its current main stage offering, the Irish comedy-drama, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN by Martin McDonagh.
The new area features a shingled roof with indoor lighting, ceiling fans, and heating. The walls consist of clear vinyl windows that weatherproof the porch from the elements, so the area can serve as a ticket will-call and concessions area for theater patrons all year round. The addition will alleviate crowding for ticket pick-up in the narrow lobby at the top of the stairs, and will give patrons more room to spread out, without going up and down stairs for tickets and refreshments.
The addition to TheatreWorks was made possible by a generous donation by the Hartcourt Foundation, theater donors, and patrons. The new area was constructed by Hipp Improvements LLC of New Milford. The theater on 5 Brookside Avenue was first constructed as the Adventist Christian Church in 1901. It became The Little Theater of New Milford in 1973, taking on the TheatreWorks name in 1992.
“Of course we’re very grateful to all of those who made this gorgeous expansion possible,” said Couture. “We’re thrilled this new space will allow us to have a reception area in which patrons can eat, drink, and gather, during rain, wind, or snow. Both before a show and after…Incidentally, James Hipp, the owner of Hipp Improvements, happens to be in the cast of THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN and will be featured in our next production, BOEING BOEING as well. I suggest those who are familiar with the theater, and those who aren’t, stop by the theater and thank him for a job well done…on two fronts.”
TheatreWorks is an award-winning, non-Equity theatre company located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to the CVS), in New Milford, CT.
