TheatreWorks Announces “Cocktails and Cabaret” Benefit Saturday, July 17
New Milford, CT, July 6, 2010 – Come join us for a mid-summer’s evening at “Cocktails & Cabaret,” a benefit for TheatreWorks New Milford’s Building Fund. The event will be held on Saturday, July 17, with cocktails from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the home of Ted Hine and the Cabaret curtain going up at 8 pm at TheatreWorks.
Lifelong New Milford resident and theater buff Ted Hine assumed the “Leading Role” for TheatreWorks New Milford’s first annual Cocktails & Cabaret fundraiser. Mr. Hine has brought his passion for both theatre and historic preservation to this project. “As a member of one of the old families of New Milford,” Ted says, “I have a sense of helping to preserve the past. The historic value of the theater is priceless. There have been other buildings in town that organizations were unable to maintain and were forced to sell. One example is the old Grange Building. It’s always a shame to watch history be torn down.”
Knowing how hard the theatre board and volunteers work to put on quality shows, Ted decided to step in and help raise funds for the building. “Without the building,” he says, “the opportunity of learning and expressing the theater craft would not be possible. So I want to make sure the opportunity is there for others and also help preserve history for New Milford.”
Festivities will begin at the theatre. Guests will be transported in champagne style by Kee Limousine to the Cocktail Party and then returned to the theatre for an 8 pm curtain. Dessert and coffee will be served during intermission.
Tickets are $50, with sponsorships still available for Leading Roles ($1,000), Supporting Roles ($500) and Cameo Roles ($250).
Besides Mr. Hines’ Leading Role support, other event sponsors are: Vincent Romeo and Ed Sparn, Opticare Eye Health Centers, Union Savings Bank, Tom & Carol Broesler and the Law Offices of Cecelia Buck-Taylor PC.
Event proceeds will benefit the theatre’s Building Fund, designated for ongoing maintenance and upgrades that ticket sales alone cannot cover. The theatre building is a historic church built in 1901.
The Cocktail garden party at Ted’s home will feature a delicious hors d’oeuvres menu catered and sponsored in part by Executive Cuisine along with summer drinks for every taste.
The Cabaret numbers, produced and directed by TheatreWorks board President Glenn R. Couture, range from singing to dancing to acting. It features familiar faces and voices from past shows at Theatreworks as well as new performers. Among the numbers will be previews of upcoming performances of Almost Maine, Rent and next years’ teen show Les Miserables.
Auction items and door prizes will complete an evening of great entertainment in support of TheatreWorks.
