TheatreWorks Hosting Second Annual “Cocktails & Cabaret” Benefit Saturday, August 6, 2011
NEW MILFORD, CONN. (July 14, 2011) – Come join us for a mid-summer’s evening at “Cocktails & Cabaret,” a benefit for TheatreWorks New Milford’s Building Fund. The event will be held on Saturday, August 6, with cocktails from 6:00 – 7:30PM at the home of Loretta and Bob Kretchko, and the Cabaret curtain going up at 8:30PM at TheatreWorks.
Last year, lifelong New Milford resident and theatre-buff Ted Hine assumed the “Leading Role” for TheatreWorks New Milford’s first annual Cocktails & Cabaret fundraiser. Mr. Hine has again brought his passion for both theatre and historic preservation to this project. “As a member of one of the oldest families of New Milford,” Ted says, “I have a sense of helping to preserve the past. The historic value of the theatre is priceless. Without the building, the opportunity of learning and expressing the theatre craft would not be possible. So I want to make sure the opportunity is there for others and also help preserve history for New Milford.”
Festivities will begin at the theatre. Guests will be greeted with champagne and transported to the Cocktail Party, with a return trip to the theatre for a Chinese auction and an 8:30PM Cabaret curtain. Dessert and coffee will be served during intermission.
Tickets are $75, with sponsorships still available for Leading Roles ($1,000), Supporting Roles ($500), Cameo Roles ($250) and Stagehand Roles ($150).
Besides Mr. Hine’s Leading Role support, other event sponsors are the Geraldine Stutz Foundation (Supporting Role), as well as Carol and Tom Broesler, the Bank Street Theatre, and the Law Offices of Cecelia Buck-Taylor (Cameo Roles). In-kind sponsors include John Trainor (flowers), John David Tekian and Rodney Bourdeau (champagne), Candlewood Roasters (coffee), and Enhance A Colour (signage).
Event proceeds will benefit the theatre’s Building Fund, designated for ongoing maintenance and upgrades that ticket sales alone cannot cover. The theatre building is a historic church built in 1901, and in a nice bit of serendipity, the date inscribed in the cornerstone of the building is also August 6!
The Cocktail garden party at the Kretchkos’ home will feature a delicious hors d’oeuvres menu of delicacies such chilled soup shooters, Thai shrimp skewers, goat cheese fritters and chili in crispy corn cups, catered and sponsored in part by Executive Cuisine with summer drinks for every taste.
The theme of this year’s Cabaret, directed by Robin Frome, is “TheatreWorks: Past, Present, and Building for Our Future.” We will be welcoming back to the TheatreWorks stage some familiar faces and voices as well as new performers, showcasing our present season and hinting at good things to come.
Auction items, including a Hunt Hill Farm classical music show, signed New Milford pottery, designer sunglasses, garden sculptures, local artwork, massage and Pilates sessions, an autographed Book “Finishing the Hat” by Stephen Sondheim, and more will complete an evening of great entertainment in support of TheatreWorks New Milford.
For information or tickets you may go to http://theatreworks.us/index.php or by calling the theatre at (860) 350-6863.
