TheatreWorks New Milford Holds Casting Call for “Avenue Q” May 19 & 20, 2014

NEW MILFORD, CONN. (May 6, 2014) – TheatreWorks New Milford is seeking a cast of 2 male and 2 female puppeteers (ages 21 to 40), plus 1 male and 2 female actors (ages 21 to 40) for its fall musical comedy, the Tony Award-winning AVENUE Q, with book by Jeff Whitty, and music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. Amongst the actors sought are an Asian female (age 25 to 40) and an African-American female (age 21 to 35). For the puppeteer roles, experience is preferred, but not necessary.

Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave., New Milford (next to the CVS) on Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

AVENUE Q is under the direction of Bradford Blake of Danbury.

There are no non-singing roles. All performers must move well and be proficient singers. Performers auditioning for any of the puppeteer roles will be asked to demonstrate character voices and manipulate puppets. Puppets will be provided at auditions. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should be prepared with 16 bars of a contemporary musical theatre piece. A cappella auditions and auditions without music for the accompanist will not be permitted.

Winner of the 2004 Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, AVENUE Q is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart. The show is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood, considering it’s inhabited by both people and puppets. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Performances run from September 19 to October 18, 2014.

TheatreWorks is an award-winning, non-Equity theatre company located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to the CVS), in New Milford, CT.
