TheatreWorks New Milford Opens George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ Next Friday
NEW MILFORD, CONN. (April 25, 2017) – On Friday, May 5 TheatreWorks New Milford will open their second show of the season, George Orwell’s classic satire Animal Farm, adapted by Ian Wooldridge. The curtain goes up at 8:00 p.m. on a four weekend run with an Opening Night Gala after the show on May 5.
Animal Farm is directed and designed by Kevin Sosbe of New Milford, CT.
George Orwell’s satire on the perils of Stalinism has proved magnificently long-lived as a parable about totalitarianism anywhere and has given the world at least one immortal phrase: “Some are more equal than others.” The animals on a farm drive out their master and take over and run the farm for themselves. The experiment is successful, except that someone has to take the deposed farmer’s place. Leadership devolves upon the pigs, which are cleverer than the rest of the animals. Unfortunately, their character is not equal to their intelligence.
The cast includes John Taylor, Viv Berger, Sonnie Osborne, Alex Echevarria, Joan Wyner, Izzy Watson, Jocelyn Beard, Jeff Miller, Maxwell Diaz, Terri Gatten, Rob Pawlikowski, Adele Burke, James McGuinness and Lucy McKay.
In addition to Mr. Sosbe, the staff consists of lighting designer Leif Smith, costume design by Denise James and stage manager Beth Plotkin.
Animal Farm runs May 5,6,11,12,13,19, 20, 21, 26, 27. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, with a 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee on May 21. Tickets for all shows are $23 for reserved seating. Students and Military personnel with ID will be admitted for $18.
