TheatreWorks Holds First Casting Call for Shakespeare for My Father May 23, 7:00 – 9:00pm
NEW MILFORD, CONN. (May 9, 2011) – TheatreWorks New Milford is announcing a casting call for one woman, age 35 to 50, to play the role of Lynn Redgrave – for its fall production, SHAKESPEARE FOR MY FATHER, by Lynn Redgrave. Auditions for the rest of the cast will be held on July 25 and 26 with details to come.
The renowned actress, who passed away just last year, made her first foray into playwriting in 1993 with SHAKESPEARE FOR MY FATHER. This autobiographical tale of Ms. Redgrave’s memories has been crafted into a complex, funny, and moving portrait of a child’s longing for the love of Sir Michael Redgrave – the inscrutable, daunting, and charismatic Shakespearean actor who was her father. Acclaimed in America and the UK, SHAKESPEARE FOR MY FATHER weaves scenes from the Bard that delightfully fuse with events in Ms. Redgrave’s young life, eliciting memories of Sir Michael and engaging impressions of the celebrated stars who frequented the Redgrave’s home and lives.
Auditions will be held at TheatreWorks, 5 Brookside Ave., New Milford (next to the CVS) on Monday, May 23, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The production is under the direction of Jane Farnol of Gaylordsville.
An English accent is required. No appointments are necessary and auditions will consist of readings from the script (available through Samuel French), but sides will be provided at the auditions.
“We’re casting the role of Lynn Redgrave early because it is such a large and demanding one. The actress selected to play Ms. Redgrave (and mind you, it won’t be an ‘imitation’ of Ms. Redgrave) will need the extra time to work on the role. So, I wish to start rehearsing with her in mid-June and hope that lots of talented actresses will come out for this outstanding part on May 23,” director Farnol said.
All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. TheatreWorks offers a stipend to all performers, technicians, and directors. For directions and other information, visit: WWW.THEATREWORKS.US/ACTORS or e-mail INFO@THEATREWORKS.US with questions.
Performances begin September 16 and run through October 8 on Fridays, Saturdays, and one Sunday.
TheatreWorks is an award-winning, non-Equity theatre company located on 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to the CVS), in New Milford, CT.
